Most DPC practices put real effort into their Google Business Profile and still don't show up consistently in local search. The profile isn't usually the problem. What's underneath it typically is.

This issue covers the three signals that actually drive local visibility, why they matter more in combination than in isolation, and one audit you can run this week at no cost.

The Three Signals That Actually Work Together:

1. Your GBP signals
Beyond the basics, what matters is activity. Google interprets a stagnant profile as a low-priority one. Regular posts (even monthly), responding to reviews within a reasonable window, and keeping your service categories specific to what you offer all contribute to how your profile is weighted.

2. Citation consistency
A citation is any mention of your practice name, address, and phone number across the web. The major directories — Google, Yelp, Healthgrades, WebMD, Vitals, Zocdoc (even if you don't use it for bookings) — all feed into how Google verifies your practice information.

3. Your website
Your website needs to reinforce your GBP, not exist independently of it. That means your practice name, address, and phone number appear on every page in the same format as your GBP. It means having a location-specific page that mentions the city and communities you serve, written for prospective patients, not search engines.

Each piece matters less in isolation. Together, they compound.

Before your next growth effort, it's worth running a quick self-audit: search your practice name, compare your GBP details against your website and two or three major directories, and note any mismatches. Fixing inconsistencies costs nothing and typically produces measurable improvement in local visibility within 60 to 90 days.

I hope this gives you something practical to act on, and helps you think about growth in a way that protects your time and keeps your practice sustainable.
